#Giving Tuesday 2020

Somewhere hidden between the anxieties created by this year’s fire season, harvest, the election, and of course, the pandemic are the actions we can take to help others as a way to help ourselves. Being of service to others and giving to charity helps us feel better. It provides us with a sense of purpose, helps lower blood pressure and manage stress, and connects your story with others–and it is good for our community!

There is a long tradition in Humboldt County of supporting locally-owned businesses and artisans. Building upon our already strong tradition of localized self-reliance, we ask Humboldt County’s cannabis farmers to help create a more robust nonprofit sector by encouraging a culture of “Giving Local.” Generous community support for local nonprofit organizations is critical to ensuring that the many social, environmental, and economic services provided to our community are maintained in the face of challenging economic times.

Through the months of November and December, let’s challenge our community to pick local nonprofits to give generously–this could be a donation of money, time, or supplies. Post a picture to Instagram, tag the nonprofits you’re donating to, and then tag five of your friends, challenging them to do the same.

“I’m showing my support for [cause/nonprofit] this Dec 1st for #GivingTuesday. Let’s come together to support our Humboldt community.”

Celebrating and encouraging charitable activities that support nonprofit organizations is becoming a national movement that kicks off the holiday giving season with “Giving Tuesday.” Giving Tuesday follows Thanksgiving, Black Friday, and Cyber Monday. This year “Give Local” on Tuesday, Dec. 1, and make “Giving Tuesday” a part of your effort to build a resilient and sustainable Humboldt.
